Cuts For Kids – Usage tracking and info source

The Cuts For Kids Foundation is non-profit organization that provides poverty relief through free-of-charge haircuts to underprivileged children and youth (3-17 years old) in Ottawa. Our goal is to better the lives of Ottawa’s young people and improve self-confidence. The Cuts For Kids Foundation is a youth-led organization and has recently partnered with the charity Youth Ottawa to receive charitable status and expand our program.

Challenge: While we currently provide 50-100 haircuts every month at community events, our goal is to be able to provide our services directly at participating Barbershops and Hair Salons in Ottawa – and eventually across major Canadian cities, via a “swipe-card system” in collaboration with each municipality. One of the major obstacles of this project is a need for a custom built web and mobile application to that registers each “swipe-card”, maps all participating haircutting locations, tracks usage, tracks how much they’ve saved (per haircut, per year, etc), and hold multiple cards (family accounts). This custom web application must be able to work on our site, on smart phones (IOS, Android, Windows).
